“Amazon’s New Limited Series ‘Just Cause’ Casts Scarlett Johansson in Lead Role, Adapted from John Katzenbach’s Bestselling Novel”

Variety has confirmed that Amazon has ordered a limited series adaptation of John Katzenbach’s novel “Just Cause”, which will feature Scarlett Johansson in the lead role. This marks Johansson’s first significant TV project, and it has been ordered as a straight-to-series format.

The upcoming show, “Just Cause,” will be written and produced by Christy Hall, while Scarlett Johansson will serve as an executive producer through her production company, These Pictures. The project will also be overseen by Zara Duff, the head of TV at These Pictures, with Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn also serving as executive producers. The studio behind the show is Warner Bros. Television.

The upcoming adaptation of “Just Cause” will make it the second time the book has been brought to the big screen. The first adaptation was released back in 1995 and featured a star-studded cast including Sean Connery, Blair Underwood, Laurence Fishburne, Ed Harris, Ruby Dee, and Kate Capshaw. Scarlett Johansson, who is widely recognized for her portrayal of Natasha Romanoff (also known as Black Widow) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been confirmed as part of the cast. Since her debut in “Iron Man 2” in 2010, Johansson has played the character in a total of eight films, with the most recent being the standalone “Black Widow” movie that came out in 2021.

Johansson has received two Oscar nominations, one for her lead role in “Marriage Story” and another for her supporting role in “Jojo Rabbit.” She has also appeared in notable films such as “Lost in Translation,” “Her,” ” Ghost in the Shell,” and “Vicky Christina Barcelona.”

Hall is represented by two major agencies, CAA and Yorn Levine. She has a notable role in co-creating the popular Netflix series “I Am Not Okay With This,” which is based on a graphic novel of the same name. Her next venture involves directing her own film titled “Daddio,” which is based on her play. The movie will star Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn in lead roles. Hall’s directorial debut is highly anticipated by fans and industry insiders alike.

According to reports from Deadline, “Just Cause” has been given the green light and is set to air soon. The talented actress is represented by CAA and Grandview, with legal counsel provided by Miles Metcoff.
