Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress who gained fame for playing Wonder Woman, is set to star as Cleopatra Philopator VII in an upcoming movie scheduled for release in 2025. The movie has been a topic of renewed discussion following the release of a new theatrical poster. Gadot hopes that the film will present a different perspective of the iconic historical figure, who was most famously portrayed by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 movie, Cleopatra. However, some have criticized Gadot’s casting as Cleopatra because of her Israeli heritage. Despite this controversy, Gadot remains passionate about the project and believes that Cleopatra deserves a more nuanced portrayal on screen. Kari Skogland has been announced as the movie’s director, replacing Patty Jenkins, who was originally attached to the project.

Cleopatra VII Philopator was a Macedonian Greek who ruled Egypt from 51 to 30 BC as the last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. She was known for her diplomatic skills and strategic alliances with powerful Roman leaders such as Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. However, her reign came to an end after the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra’s forces in the Battle of Actium, marking the demise of the Ptolemaic dynasty and the beginning of Roman rule in Egypt.
